Why gold instead of blue and pink
Blue and pink tell everyone what the party is before anything is revealed, which is exactly the point for some setups and a problem for others. Gold sidesteps it. It works when the shower theme is already built around greenery, cream, and neutrals; when you want the photos to look styled rather than themed; and when you're announcing a baby without turning the whole room into a color-coded guessing game.
It's also the practical answer if you're reusing decor. Gold letters carry over to a first birthday, a welcome-home party, or a nursery reveal. Blue and pink don't.

Warm metallics sit well against white, cream, blush, sage, and soft pastels, and they photograph best with a matte background — a plain wall, a fabric backdrop, or a balloon garland in muted tones. Avoid mounting gold letters against another shiny surface; two reflective materials in the same frame flatten each other out.
Under warm indoor lighting gold reads richer; under daylight it reads brighter and slightly paler. If your reveal is outdoors at midday, expect a lighter, champagne-toned finish in photos than the product image shows.

Are BOY and GIRL the same size? No — GIRL is one letter longer, so it runs about 4.7 inches wider. Allow for that if you're hanging them at matching heights.
